The most famous smile of the sixties, now telling the time. On a square of clear sky blue, Marilyn looks out with half-closed eyes: waves of golden hair in honey and amber, turquoise eyeshadow, a beauty mark, and lips in deep red. The face is left almost white, as in a silkscreen print, so the colour around it does all the talking. A pale frame runs around the portrait, marked with small turquoise bars and diamonds in place of numbers, and two slim black hands turn from a brass centre.
Every colour is its own piece of glass. Made with the glass fusion technique: sheets of coloured Murano glass are cut by hand, composed piece by piece and fused in the kiln into a single panel, then fitted with its clock movement. The curls of the hair are raised from the surface, so you can feel each one under your fingers.
Original Murano glass, made entirely by hand in Italy by master glassmakers: no two clocks are ever the same. Stand it on a shelf! As the light changes through the day the blue deepens and the gold of the hair warms, and the portrait changes mood with the hour.
