Bordallo Pinheiro Pitchers Fox pitcher

Sly, elegant, and alert, the Bordallo Pinheiro Fox pitcher captures the quiet intelligence of its namesake. Its poised stance, amber glaze, and detailed fur relief lend the impression of movement held in stillness. The elongated neck becomes a graceful handle, while the muzzle forms the spout, transforming a familiar figure from folklore into an emblem of wit and refinement. More than a jug, it is a portrait in ceramic form.

Design and artistic vision

Conceived by Raphael Bordallo Pinheiro, the Fox pitcher embodies the designer’s fascination with storytelling through form. In his celebrated series of animal jugs, nature is reinterpreted with humor, intellect, and sculptural precision. The fox, clever and composed, emerges as a symbol of observation and sophistication. Within the artistic animal serveware collection and combining it with Gudrun collection, this piece exemplifies his ability to balance character and craft, creating functional objects that feel alive.

Craftsmanship and process

Each hand painted Portuguese ceramic jug is shaped, detailed, the birthplace of Bordallo’s ceramic legacy. Layers of glaze build richness across the terracotta surface, capturing the subtle gradients of fur and expression. These slight variations make every jug unique, a tactile testament to authenticity. The terracotta collectible jug combines durability and artistry, preserving the vitality of handwork in an increasingly mechanized world.

Function and versatility

The Bordallo Pinheiro Fox pitcher is designed for both service and display. It is suitable for microwave and dishwasher use, but should not be placed in the oven or exposed to abrupt temperature changes. Balanced proportions and a secure handle ensure ease of use when pouring water, wine, or sangria. When not in service, it stands proudly as décor, a sculptural accent that enriches any table, shelf, or sideboard.
