A striking example of Vallauris relief ceramics, this vase combines a sharply defined thrown form with an assertive, hand-built surface. The interior, rim, and foot are finished in a glossy blue-black glaze, kept deliberately clean to preserve function and clarity. Small applied lugs punctuate the upper body, reinforcing its utilitarian origins.
The central band is built up with thick pink barbotine, applied in successive layers and pressed by hand while leather-hard. Rather than decoration, the surface is formed through accumulation and pressure, allowing the kiln to activate depth through glaze pooling and edge breaks. The contrast between the controlled rim and the eruptive body is intentional and confident. Functional, sculptural, and unmistakably of its time.
